Create a book report

The creation flow starts with a title and due date, then moves to the builder for book selection and rubric setup.

1. Go to Assignments → New assignment → Book report.
2. Give it a title (and optional description and due date).
3. Continue to the builder to set the book, format, and rubric.

Choose the book

You can assign the same book to everyone or let each student pick their own.

• I pick the book — every student reports on the same book.
• Students pick their own book — each student attaches the book they read.

Pick books from your Book Library, where you can add title, author, cover, and a short description.

Choose how students submit

Essay format suits formal writing; conversation format guides students through reflective discussion with Chat.

• Essay — set an essay prompt and optional minimum/maximum word count.
• Conversation — students chat freely with Chat, which asks follow-up questions about the book. You get a rubric-based report afterwards.

Set rubric weights

Adjust the weights to match what you value most in a book report — plot understanding, character analysis, themes, or personal reflection.

Feedback

AI reads the essay or conversation transcript and drafts a rubric-aligned report for your review.

After a student submits, Chat reads the work and drafts an AI report with rubric scores, strengths, and areas to improve — released based on your review mode. You can edit the report before releasing it.

Publish the assignment and invite students once the book, prompt, and rubric are set.
